@indieheroine tagged her original post with “I’m for gun ownership, but the NRA is ridiculous.” Right on. They are a bunch of instigating political assholes that do not represent the views of the intelligent gun community (and no, that is not an oxymoron).
I hate that they are considered the public’s advocate for the second amendment. People on the other side of this issue, please know that they do not speak for gun owners with common sense. Anyone truly mindful of their responsibility as a gun owner, anyone that recognizes something must be done with gun show loopholes and IDIOTIC open carry laws, would not object to background checks or limited mag capacity. I myself am affected by the federal laws prohibiting people with mental illness from carrying or purchasing a weapon. I AM OK WITH THAT! I know I am not a danger to other people, but Joe Crazy in the waiting room next to me might be! The truth is that this is nothing but a grandstanding pissing contest by polarized parties, and it’s clear that both sides are aiming their streams at the American public with no interest whatsoever in resolving this with logical middle ground.

the best part? we still have mutual friends on FB, so this person could have messaged me. Texting implied that they went through some lengths to get/keep my number after years of strained relations, no phone contact, and loss/change of phones on their part (I know this, thanks to Stalkerbook). It felt invasive and aggressive, even though the tone was “friendly.”
I’m elaborating, even though I abhor drama (abhor it, though it’s a stranger to none), because this is out of character for me. I do not unfriend people (in life and facebook, heh) even when there has been drama, because it’s petty. This would be the first time and it was hard…I freaked out so much, I even deactivated my FB for a week. I tried to see the best in this person for so long, because there was so much there that I admired. But, eventually you have to do what is best for yourself. Maybe that sounds selfish, but Life is selfish in that I am the only one that is in this skin. I have to live my own moments and feel my own pain and when my time comes, I am the only one that will die in this body. So pardon me, if I seem selfish about this.
what I feel I have to balance, is remembering that kindness, empathy, and grace are equally important. Yes, sometimes you have to take drastic steps. There should be no shame in self respect - the constructive kind - the healthy self respect that treats your soul like a good friend.
